MURIC Mourns Death of Sheikh Hadiyatullah at 83
The Muslim Rights Concern describes the late scholar as bold, resourceful, and deeply committed to the welfare of Nigerian Muslims.

The Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC), has condoled with the Supreme Council for Shariah in Nigeria (SCSN), over the death of its President, Shaykh Abdur Rasheed Hadiyyatullah, who died on Monday, April 28, 2025.
The group described the deceased as an “energetic, bold and resourceful leader.” This was contained in a press release issued by the Executive Director of MURIC, Professor Ishaq Akintola.
It read: “The death of the President of the Supreme Council for Shariah in Nigeria (SCSN), Shaykh Abdur Rasheed Hadiyyatullah, has been announced. He died after a brief illness in his home town, Iwo, Osun State on Monday, April 28, 2025. He was 83.
“Shaykh Hadiyatullah was an energetic, bold and resourceful leader. A prominent and highly respected Islamic scholar, he is widely known for his deep knowledge of Islam and his world-wide exposure. He had a huge passion for the freedom and general welfare of Nigerian Muslims.
“The Shaykh attended the famous Arabic Institute of Nigeria, Elekuro, Ibadan (Ma’had al-’Arabi) before proceeding to the University of Madinah, where he read Shari’ah…”
Thereafter, he proceeded to the University of Ibadan where he did his masters degree.
“He has served as chairman of the Pilgrims Board of Osun State. He was also the Director of the Sheikh Ibn Baz Shariah College of Nigeria until his death. He was the first chairman of the Concerned Yoruba Muslim Scholars of Nigeria.
“We commiserate with the leadership and other officials of the Shariah Council as well as all members of the organization. This must be a harrowing experience for them after the death of their former president, Dr. Ibrahim Datti Ahmad about three and a half years ago (30th December, 2021).
“May Allah forgive Shaykh Abdur Rasheed Hadiyatullah. May his soul be reposed in al-Jannah Firdaus. May Allah in His Infinite Mercy also grant his family the fortitude to bear the loss.”
