BREAKING NEWS: NSCIA Repositions for Greater Heights
The Council expands its leadership structure with four new Deputy Secretaries-General assigned to international affairs, national affairs, corporate matters and administration.

The Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA) has approved an expanded leadership structure with the appointment of four additional Deputy Secretaries-General to oversee key areas of the Council’s affairs. The development emerged from the NSCIA General Assembly in Abuja on Thursday, where Muslim leaders from across Nigeria deliberated on issues affecting the Muslim Ummah and the nation.
The Council is led by its President-General and Sultan of Sokoto, His Eminence Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III, CFR, mni.
The leadership includes the Deputy President-General (North), His Royal Highness Alhaji Abubakar Umar Ibn Garbai El-Kanemi, CFR, the Shehu of Borno; the Deputy President-General (South), Alhaji Rasaki Oladejo, FCA; and the Secretary-General, Professor Is-haq Olanrewaju Oloyede. NSCIA records identify the Shehu of Borno as the permanent Deputy President-General for the North.
Under the expanded structure, Professor Salisu Shehu, the existing Deputy Secretary-General, has been assigned responsibility for International Affairs. Professor Mahfouz A. Adedimeji has been appointed Deputy Secretary-General in charge of National Affairs.
Abeny Mohammed, SAN, has been appointed Deputy Secretary-General responsible for Corporate Matters.
Dr Bala Muhammad has been appointed Deputy Secretary-General in charge of Administration.
Prof. Dr Ahmed Jibrin Gwandu – Public Relations Officer (PRO), while Hajia Sekinat Lawal – Deputy Public Relations Officer (DPRO).
The appointments bring dedicated portfolios to the office of the Deputy Secretary-General as the Council seeks to strengthen the administration and coordination of its affairs.
Professor Salisu Shehu has served as Deputy Secretary-General of the NSCIA for several years, with the Council’s records and previous official releases identifying him in the role.
