58.67% Meet Five-Credit Benchmark as NECO Releases 2026 SSCE Results
The results come 63 days after the examination ended, while reported malpractice cases fell by 64.74 per cent from 3,878 in 2025 to 1,406 this year.

The National Examinations Council (NECO) has released the results of the 2026 Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) Internal, with 804,948 candidates, representing 58.67 per cent of those who sat for the examination, earning at least five credits including English Language and Mathematics.
The results were announced on Thursday by the NECO Registrar and Chief Executive, Prof. Dantani Wushishi, at the Council’s headquarters in Minna, Niger State, 63 days after the last paper was written.
Wushishi said 1,378,048 candidates registered for the examination, while 1,371,992 eventually sat for it.
The examination was conducted from June 15 to July 23, 2026, across Nigeria’s 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory, as well as six foreign countries.
The registrar also disclosed that 1,162,118 candidates, representing 84.70 per cent of those who sat for the examination, obtained five credits and above irrespective of their performance in English Language and Mathematics.
The 58.67 per cent figure represents a 2.64 percentage-point decline from the 60.26 per cent recorded in the 2025 examination for candidates who obtained at least five credits including English Language and Mathematics.
The examination also recorded a sharp reduction in reported cases of malpractice.
Wushishi said 1,406 candidates were implicated in various forms of examination malpractice in 2026, compared with 3,878 candidates recorded in 2025, representing a 64.74 per cent decline.
He attributed the reduction to measures adopted by the Council to strengthen examination processes and monitoring, alongside collaboration with security agencies and other stakeholders.
The registrar commended the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) and the Department of State Services (DSS) for their vigilance and support during the examination.
According to him, the presence and efforts of the security agencies helped reinforce discipline, deter examination-related misconduct and protect the integrity of the exercise.
Wushishi also disclosed that 1,334 candidates with special needs participated in the 2026 SSCE, as the Council continued to make provisions for inclusiveness in the conduct of its examinations.
He expressed appreciation to President Bola Tinubu for reappointing him for a second tenure as NECO registrar and thanked the Minister of Education, Dr Tunji Alausa, for the confidence reposed in his leadership.
The 2026 SSCE Internal results are now available to candidates through NECO’s result-checking platform.
Wushishi assured candidates, parents, schools and other stakeholders that NECO would continue to uphold the credibility, fairness and integrity of its examinations.
