Qalibaf: Iran Won’t Back Down on Its Rights

Iran’s Parliament Speaker Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf says Tehran does not trust the United States and will not compromise on its national rights in talks aimed at ending regional conflict.
He made the remarks during a meeting in Tehran with Pakistan’s Chief of Army Staff, Field Marshal Asim Munir, who is in Iran for discussions on Pakistan-brokered negotiations between Tehran and Washington.
Qalibaf said Iran will continue to defend its interests with both military strength and diplomatic efforts, stressing that national dignity cannot be traded in any agreement.
He accused the United States of breaking commitments and escalating tensions even during ongoing negotiations, adding that Iran has been forced to respond firmly while still pursuing diplomacy.
The Iranian speaker also warned that if the war resumes, Iran’s armed forces are fully prepared and any new conflict would be more costly for the United States.
Field Marshal Asim Munir said he was encouraged by Iran’s leadership and ongoing diplomatic engagement, and held separate meetings with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian and Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi during his visit.
The wider backdrop to the statement includes long-running Iran–US tensions, recent ceasefire efforts brokered through Pakistan, and stalled negotiations over maritime restrictions and sanctions.
