The Muslim Ummah of South West Nigeria (MUSWEN) says sustained engagement with governments at federal and state levels remains central to advancing the rights, welfare and interests of Muslims across the region.

MUSWEN Executive Secretary, Professor Wole Abass, stated this on Saturday, October 24, 2026, during a courtesy visit to the Assembly of Muslim Organisations in Iwoland, also known as Isokan Musulumi, led by its chairman, Sheikh Abdurosheed Idris-Fazazi.

Abass said MUSWEN serves as the umbrella body for Islamic organisations across the South-West, with a mandate to promote unity among Muslims, resolve disagreements within the Ummah and advocate the protection of Muslims’ rights and interests.

He said the organisation would continue to engage governments at all levels to ensure that Muslims enjoy their rights and entitlements as citizens, while maintaining peaceful and constructive relationships with public institutions.

According to Abass, the visit was part of preparations for MUSWEN’s 11th Annual General Assembly, scheduled to hold at the University of Ibadan in Oyo State.

He said the delegation also came to formally notify the Assembly of Muslim Organisations in Iwoland, which he described as a key stakeholder, about the forthcoming gathering and encourage its participation.

Abass further disclosed that Ogun State would host the 12th edition of the MUSWEN Annual General Assembly next year.

Responding, Idris-Fazazi commended MUSWEN for what he described as exemplary leadership and its efforts to promote unity among Muslims across the South-West.

He urged the organisation to sustain its efforts to strengthen relationships among Muslim groups, saying unity was essential to the collective progress and development of the Ummah.

Idris-Fazazi also called on Muslims to acquire knowledge and skills in technology and engineering to remain competitive and relevant in the 21st century.

He stressed the importance of education and technological advancement in enabling Muslims to contribute meaningfully to society and respond to the challenges of a rapidly changing world.

Earlier, the Chairman of the Planning Committee for the 11th MUSWEN General Assembly, Alhaji Abdurahman Abdulganiy, described the unity among Muslims in Iwo as a source of pride and an example of the solidarity MUSWEN seeks to promote.

He commended the Muslim community in Iwoland for maintaining cooperation among its various groups, saying such unity reflected the organisation’s vision of fostering harmony and solidarity within the Ummah.

The visit was attended by the Aare Musulumi of Osun State, Alhaji Mustapha Olawuyi; members of the League of Imams and Alfas in Iwoland; representatives of the Osun State Muslim Community in MUSWEN; and other Muslim leaders.
