PHOTO NEWS: Qur’an Memorizers at 2nd National Competition in Abuja

The Cultural Attaché Office of the Royal Embassy of Saudi Arabia in Nigeria on Wednesday opened the second edition of its National Qur’anic Memorisation and Tafsir Competition in Abuja, bringing together Qur’an memorizers from different parts of the country for the five-day contest.
The 2026 competition features three categories covering the memorisation of 60, 40 and 20 Hizb, with contestants assessed in both Qur’anic memorisation and Tafsir.
A notable change in this year’s edition is the introduction of Tafsir alongside memorisation and recitation, requiring contestants to demonstrate an understanding of the meanings of the verses included in their respective categories.
The initiative continues the Embassy’s efforts to promote Qur’anic learning and encourage young people to deepen their engagement with the Qur’an beyond memorisation, while the addition of Tafsir places greater emphasis on understanding and applying its teachings.
The competition, which runs from September 23 to 27, is now underway in Abuja, with contestants competing under the revised format.
