PHOTO HIGHLIGHTS: Nigerian Pilgrims Arrive in Muzdalifah

Nigerian pilgrims have arrived in Muzdalifah after departing the Plain of Arafat, continuing the next phase of the annual Hajj pilgrimage alongside millions of Muslims gathered in Saudi Arabia for one of the world’s largest religious movements.

Pilgrims travelled from Arafat shortly after sunset following hours of prayer and supplication during Wuquf, regarded as the spiritual climax of the Hajj rites. The movement to Muzdalifah marked the transition into the next stage of the pilgrimage, as worshippers prepared to spend the night in open worship beneath the desert sky.

In Muzdalifah, pilgrims are expected to rest, pray and collect pebbles that will later be used for the symbolic stoning ritual at Jamarat in Mina, one of the final major rites of Hajj.

Nigerian pilgrims were photographed arriving steadily through the night amid tightly coordinated transport and crowd-management operations supervised by Saudi authorities across the holy sites.

The movement from Arafat to Muzdalifah forms one of the most logistically sensitive stages of the pilgrimage, requiring the coordinated relocation of more than 1.7 million pilgrims within a limited time frame.

Saudi authorities maintained extensive security, medical and heat-management measures as temperatures remained high across the pilgrimage routes, with emergency teams and guidance personnel deployed throughout the Mashāʿir areas.

Officials of the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) were also seen coordinating the movement of Nigerian pilgrims, as the commission continued its expanded operational support across Mina, Arafat and Muzdalifah during this year’s Hajj exercise.

The overnight stay in Muzdalifah is regarded as both a physical and spiritual pause within the pilgrimage, where worshippers spend the night in reflection before returning to Mina for the next rites of Hajj.
