Oyo Chief Imam Crowns Oloyede’s JAMB Tenure a Model of Public Service
Islamic leader says the former Registrar restored confidence in Nigeria’s admissions system through integrity, transparency and institutional reforms.

The Grand Chief Imam of Oyo Kingdom, Fodhilatu Shaykh Al-Imam Bilaal Husayn Akinola Akeugberu, has paid tribute to the former Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), Prof. Is-haq Olanrewaju Oloyede, describing his 10-year tenure as a model of integrity, accountability and public service.
In a congratulatory message marking Oloyede’s completion of his tenure as Registrar and Chief Executive of JAMB, the Chief Imam said the former Registrar transformed Nigeria’s admissions system and restored public confidence in the examination body.
Speaking on behalf of the Muslim community of Oyo Kingdom, including Imams, Islamic scholars and Muslim organisations, Akeugberu said Oloyede’s administration was defined by transparency, discipline, innovation and an unwavering commitment to excellence.
He said the reforms introduced during the past decade strengthened JAMB’s institutional credibility and left what he described as an enduring legacy for Nigeria’s education sector.
According to the Chief Imam, Oloyede’s approach to public administration demonstrated that ethical leadership and professionalism could drive meaningful institutional change.
He further said the former Registrar’s conduct in office had inspired many Nigerians, particularly young people, to embrace honesty, diligence and patriotism.
Quoting the Qur’an, the Chief Imam cited Surah An-Nisa (4:58): “Indeed, Allah commands you to render trusts to whom they are due and when you judge between people to judge with justice,” saying the verse reflected the principles that characterised Oloyede’s public service.
He also referenced a Prophetic tradition reported by Al-Bayhaqi which encourages excellence in every responsibility entrusted to a believer.
The Chief Imam prayed that Allah would accept Oloyede’s years of public service, forgive his shortcomings, grant him good health, long life and continued opportunities to serve Islam, Nigeria and humanity.
He also prayed for successors who would preserve and build upon the reforms introduced during Oloyede’s administration.
The message comes days after Oloyede formally handed over the leadership of JAMB to Prof. Segun Aina following a decade in office. During his valedictory address, Oloyede described technology, transparency, staff welfare, discipline and institutional collaboration as the pillars of reforms that reshaped the Board and Nigeria’s tertiary admissions process.
The commendation adds to a series of tributes that have followed Oloyede’s departure from JAMB, with supporters crediting his administration with introducing reforms that reshaped Nigeria’s tertiary admissions system and set new standards for accountability in public institutions.
