JUST IN: Sokoto Sets Up 14-Day Panel to Examine Musa Lukuwa’s Statements

The advisory committee will examine the Sharia position on issues raised by the Islamic scholar and submit its findings and recommendations to the state government.

The Sokoto State Government has constituted an Advisory Committee to examine controversies surrounding utterances attributed to Islamic scholars in the state, including issues raised by Malam Musa Lukuwa.

The committee, approved by Governor Ahmed Aliyu Sokoto, is expected to examine the position of Sharia on the issues raised by Lukuwa and advise the state government accordingly.

The government said the controversies surrounding the utterances had led to a breach of peace in the state.

The 14-member committee is chaired by Malam Yahaya na Malam Boyi, Sarkin Malamai, with Barrister Gandi Umar Muhammad, mni, serving as secretary.

Its members are Malam Muhammad Isah Mafara; Malam Bello na Malam Boyi; Prof. Mansur Ibrahim, mni; Prof. Mansur Ibrahim Sa’id; representatives of Izala from Kaduna and Jos; representatives of Tijjaniyyah, Qadiriyyah, Jama’atu Nasril Islam and the Sultanate Council; the Commissioner for Religious Affairs; and Malam Lawal Maidoki.

The committee’s terms of reference require it to critically examine the Sharia position on the issues raised by Lukuwa and submit its report to the government within 14 days.

The committee is expected to present its findings and recommendations to the government at the end of the 14-day period.
