Iran has strongly condemned a reported terrorist attack in the Sayyida Zeinab area of Damascus, Syria, which led to the killing of the Imam and speaker of the Sayyida Zeinab Shrine, Sayyed Farhan Hassan al-Mansour.

Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Ismail Baghaei described the incident as a serious crime and expressed deep concern over attacks targeting religious figures and holy sites in the region.

In a statement carried by IRNA, Baghaei said such attacks are part of wider efforts to spread division and instability across the Middle East.

He accused what he described as hostile foreign actors of benefiting from unrest in the region, claiming they aim to fuel tensions between countries.

The spokesman called on regional governments and stakeholders to remain alert and united in responding to terrorism and extremist violence.

He also stressed the importance of identifying those responsible for planning and carrying out the attack and bringing them to justice.

Baghaei further urged closer cooperation among regional countries to address what he described as the root causes of terrorism and prevent similar incidents.

The Sayyida Zeinab area in Damascus is known as an important religious site and often receives pilgrims and visitors.
