Breaking: Nigeria’s Inaugural Flight to Hajj 2026 holds in Abuja

The National Hajj Commission of Nigeria, NAHCON, through a press invitation signed by Fatima Sanda Usara, Deputy Director, Information and Publication Division of the organisation, has announced the Nigeria’s inaugural Flight to Hajj 2026 will hold in Abuja, on Sunday, 3 May 2026.

The ceremony marks the beginning of the departures of Nigerian pilgrims to this year’s Hajj in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Earlier, Nigeria’s  advance party, comprises of some staff of the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria, the Medical , the Ulama and Media team, had departed Nigeria to Jeddah, Makkah and Madinah to await the arrivals of the pilgrims.

The inaugural outbound flight is a significant step in the Hajj operations. It is a yearly ritual, which is not only peculiar to Nigeria, but also performed by participating countries that converge in the Kingdom for pilgrimage. Records confirm almost fifty-five thousand Nigerians, through the various State Pilgrims Boards and Hajj and Umrah private Tour operators are travelling for this year’s pilgrimage.

At the occasion, the Federal Government of Nigeria, usually bid the pilgrims farewell and admonish them to be good Ambassadors of Nigeria in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The Chairman of the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria, Ambassador Ismail Abba Yusuf and his Management team, will be joined by other dignitaries  to bid the pilgrims good bye.

Ceremony heralding the flight departure holds at the Pilgrims Terminal at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport with the first batch of Kogi State, pilgrims departing afterwards.

Hajj is the fifth pillar of Islam. It is International in practice and the largest assemblage of human beings on Earth. Its uniqueness makes it a Life Time Experience for the host country, the pilgrims and the officials of the countries participating.
