Al Akhawaatul Muslimaat Seeks Hijab Order Compliance

Says full implementation will protect Muslim students’ rights and promote religious harmony

By Sadiq Abdulfatah

The Al Akhawaatul Muslimaat Organisation has called on the Oyo State Government to enforce the recent court judgment affirming the right of female Muslim students to wear hijab in public schools across the state.

In a statement, the organisation urged the government to issue an official circular directing all schools to fully comply with the judgment delivered on July 20, 2026, in Suit No. I/47/2026.

The group described the ruling as a victory for justice, equality and freedom of religion, saying its full implementation would promote peaceful coexistence and religious harmony in Oyo State.

It also urged the government to direct the Ministry of Education, the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) and the Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM) to ensure strict compliance with the court’s decision.

According to the organisation, such a directive would prevent harassment, denial of admission and discrimination against female Muslim students, while allowing them to pursue their education with dignity.

The group further called on Islamic scholars and imams to educate Muslims about the judgment and encourage them to remain peaceful.

It expressed confidence that the Oyo State Government would uphold the rule of law and ensure full implementation of the court’s ruling.
