VC Urges Muslims to Use New Media to Promote Islamic Values
Umar Pate says technology offers a global platform for positive Islamic outreach

The Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University, Kashere, Gombe State, Umar Pate, has called on Muslims to make effective use of new media to promote Islamic values across the world. He said technology provides an opportunity to reach a global audience within seconds.
Pate made the call on Sunday during the inauguration of newly elected executives of the Adamawa Muslim Council in Yola. He noted that the internet has made communication faster and easier, allowing people to connect instantly regardless of location.
He explained that technological advancement is rapidly changing the world of work, adding that while millions of jobs may disappear due to artificial intelligence, robotics and other technologies, new opportunities are also being created. He said understanding and adapting to these changes is important.
According to the vice-chancellor, new media can be used either positively or negatively. He warned that while it can be a tool for good when used responsibly, misuse can lead to serious consequences, including the spread of harmful content.
Pate advised Muslims to handle new media with care by avoiding hate speech, fake news, misinformation and malinformation. He stressed the importance of acquiring proper knowledge to use digital platforms effectively for Da’awa, coordination, announcements and skills development.
Speaking at the event, Adamawa State Governor, Ahmadu Fintiri, charged the new council executives to uphold justice and fairness in their leadership. He also urged clerics to preach Islam without bias and to be mindful of their words when addressing followers.
Traditional ruler of Adamawa, the Lamido of Adamawa, Barkindo Mustapha, congratulated the new executives and encouraged them to work towards unity among Muslims. In his acceptance speech, the council’s chairman, Gambo Jika, thanked Muslim groups for their support and pledged continued commitment to unity and progress.
