Kaduna State Governor, Uba Sani, has pledged to establish a foundation to immortalise the late Sheikh Dahiru Usman Bauchi, with the aim of preserving the Islamic scholar’s lifelong commitment to inter-religious harmony and peaceful coexistence.

The governor made the pledge on Sunday during a condolence visit to the family of the late Tijjaniyya leader in Bauchi, where he led a 30-member delegation to the family residence following the cleric’s death on Nov. 27.

Sani said the Kaduna State Government would set up a committee made up of members of the late Sheikh’s family, his students and other stakeholders to work out the modalities for establishing the proposed foundation.

He explained that although the late Islamic scholar was from Bauchi State, Kaduna State would take deliberate steps to honour his memory in view of his wide contributions to Islam, good governance and national unity.

According to the governor, the proposed foundation would not only preserve the ideals and values of the late cleric but would also implement projects and initiatives he had envisioned during his lifetime. He described the late Sheikh as a trusted adviser whose guidance often produced positive outcomes.

The governor assured the family that his administration would continue the late cleric’s efforts in fostering unity among Muslims and promoting peaceful coexistence among people of different faiths, both in Kaduna State and across Nigeria.

Responding on behalf of the family, a son of the deceased, Khalifa Sayyid Ibrahim, thanked the governor for his close relationship with the late Sheikh and for personally visiting to commiserate with the family. He also expressed appreciation for the promise to rebuild the house where the cleric grew up.
