Sultanate Denies Fresh Protest Video Against Sultan

The Sultanate Council in Sokoto has dismissed a viral video circulating on social media claiming to show a recent protest against the Sultan over the country’s economic hardship and rising food prices.

In a statement issued by the council’s Public Relations Officer, Aminu Haliru Gidadawa, the Sultanate said the video being shared online is old footage from 2024 and is being reposted out of context to mislead the public.

According to the statement, the protest took place during nationwide demonstrations over the high cost of food items, stressing that the Sultan was never involved in partisan politics.

The council added that the position of the Sultan on the issue of hardship has remained unchanged, noting that he has consistently shown concern over the difficulties facing Nigerians and has continued to support efforts aimed at improving public welfare and food security.

The Sultanate also clarified that there is no unrest or protest currently taking place at the palace or within its surroundings, describing the atmosphere as peaceful and calm.

It urged members of the public to verify information before sharing online, warning that the circulation of old videos as recent events could create unnecessary tension and confusion.
