Sheikh Muhammad Salah Headlines CMO’s 20th Anniversary
Emir Sanusi, Vice-President Kashim Shettima and other dignitaries expected as organisation celebrates two decades of impact

The Crystal Muslim Organisation (CMO) is set to celebrate two decades of educational advocacy, youth development and humanitarian service with a two-day programme in Abuja that will bring together senior government officials, traditional rulers, Islamic scholars, professionals and students from across Nigeria.
The organisation, founded in 2006 by a group of Muslim professionals concerned about misconceptions surrounding Islam and the need for greater public enlightenment, says the anniversary events will focus on knowledge, responsible citizenship and the role of young people in shaping society.
According to the organisation’s Planning Committee, the celebrations will commence on Saturday, 27 June, with a special anniversary lecture and the launch of a commemorative edition of Crystal Magazine at the Maryam Babangida National Centre for Women Development in Abuja.
The lecture, titled “Pen and Revelation: The Sacred Role of Reading and Writing in Islam,” is expected to examine the place of knowledge, literacy and intellectual engagement within Islamic civilisation and contemporary society.
Organisers say the event will draw participation from academics, religious leaders, policymakers, students and community stakeholders, reflecting the organisation’s longstanding emphasis on education as a tool for social transformation.
Among the dignitaries expected are the Emir of Kano, Khalifa Muhammadu Sanusi II, who will chair the event; Vice-President Kashim Shettima, who is expected as Special Guest of Honour; internationally renowned Islamic scholar Sheikh Dr Muhammad Salah, who is the guest lecturer; and the Emir of Keffi, Dr Shehu Chindo Yamusa III, National Patron of the organisation, who will serve as Chief Host.
The second day of activities will take place at the Conference Hall of the National Mosque, Abuja, where participants will gather for the grand finale of the organisation’s Annual International Youth Essay Competition and an educational seminar examining the relationship between faith and emerging technologies.
The seminar, themed “Artificial Intelligence: The Islamic Perspective,” will explore the opportunities and ethical questions presented by rapidly advancing artificial intelligence technologies, as well as their implications for education, governance, morality and human responsibility.
Organisers say the discussion is intended to provide guidance for students, educators, professionals and policymakers navigating a technological landscape increasingly shaped by machine learning and automated systems.
Expected guests at the seminar include the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt Hon Abbas Tajudeen; the Minister of State for Education, Professor Suwaiba Said Ahmad; former Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), Professor Ishaq Oloyede; and Professor Rasheeda Olawunmi of Nasarawa State University, Keffi.
A major highlight of the second day will be the presentation of awards to winners of the organisation’s Annual International Youth Essay Competition, one of its longest-running educational initiatives.
For two decades, the competition has encouraged young people at primary, secondary and tertiary levels to cultivate reading, research and writing skills while engaging contemporary issues through informed intellectual discourse. Organisers say the programme has helped nurture generations of young thinkers capable of contributing positively to society through scholarship and constructive public engagement.
Beyond its educational programmes, Crystal Muslim Organisation has established itself as a platform for community development and humanitarian intervention. Over the years, it has undertaken projects ranging from scholarship schemes and educational support for orphans to medical assistance, skills acquisition programmes, youth and women empowerment initiatives, environmental campaigns and the renovation of schools and community facilities.
The organisation has also expanded its social welfare activities through Zakat and Waqf programmes designed to support vulnerable individuals and families.
About Dr. Muhammad Salah
Dr. Muhammad Salah is an international Islamic scholar renowned for his extensive academic training and impactful contributions to Islamic education and media. He holds a PhD in Comparative Fiqh, alongside academic qualifications in Shari’ah and Islamic Law, pharmacology, and Islamic studies.
