Saudi Arabia Urges Calm After US-Iran Ceasefire Breach

Saudi Arabia has renewed its support for de-escalation and continued dialogue after fresh tensions between the United States and Iran raised concerns over violations of the ceasefire that began on April 8.

Saudi Deputy Foreign Minister for Public Diplomacy, Rayed Krimly, said in a post on X that the Kingdom remains committed to efforts aimed at reducing tensions and supporting negotiations.

He said Saudi Arabia’s position continues to favor calm, avoiding further escalation, and backing diplomatic efforts to resolve the crisis.

Krimly also warned against media reports based on unnamed sources, including some claiming to represent Saudi views, that suggested otherwise.

The statement came after Washington and Tehran traded accusations over new ceasefire breaches.

U.S. Central Command said Iranian forces fired toward three American warships, while Iranian officials accused the United States of attacking an Iranian oil tanker and another vessel. Tehran also alleged airstrikes on civilian areas in Qeshm Island, Bandar Khamir and Sirik near the Strait of Hormuz.

Despite the latest tensions, U.S. President Donald Trump said talks with Iran are still ongoing.

He told reporters that negotiations with Tehran have not stopped.

Reports said Washington has presented an initial proposal aimed at formally ending the conflict, while more sensitive issues such as Iran’s nuclear programme could be discussed later.

Iran said it is still reviewing the proposal and has not yet taken a final decision.
