The Ogun State Deputy Governor, Engr. Noimot Salako-Oyedele, has pledged to mobilise support for a development fund established by the Muslim Ummah of South-West Nigeria (MUSWEN) to strengthen youth development, humanitarian assistance and welfare programmes for vulnerable members of society.

She made the commitment during a meeting with a MUSWEN delegation led by its President, Alhaji Rasaki Oladejo, at her office in Abeokuta, as the organisation intensifies preparations for its 11th General Assembly scheduled for November 15 in Ibadan, Oyo State.

The proposed Endowment Fund is part of MUSWEN’s efforts to establish a more sustainable financial foundation for its programmes, including youth development initiatives, welfare assistance for disadvantaged members of the Muslim community and other humanitarian interventions.

Salako-Oyedele pledged to help mobilise additional contributions towards the initiative, expressing support for efforts to strengthen the capacity of Muslim institutions to address the needs of their communities.

She also commended Oladejo for his contributions to MUSWEN during his tenure, praying that Allah would reward his efforts and wishing him success in his future endeavours.

The Deputy Governor expressed confidence that the incoming leadership would build on the achievements of the outgoing administration, while emphasising the importance of unity and collective commitment in advancing the interests of the Muslim community.

At a separate engagement with the delegation at his palace, the Olowu of Owu Kingdom, Oba (Prof.) Saka Adeola Matemilola, called for greater understanding and cooperation among Muslims, particularly in Ogun State.

The monarch pledged to sustain efforts to bring stakeholders in the state’s Muslim community together, observing that differences among individuals and groups should not become obstacles to collective progress.

He stressed that patience, dialogue and mutual respect were essential to overcoming divisions and enabling Muslims to pursue common interests with a stronger, united voice.

The engagements also provided an opportunity for Oladejo to brief the two leaders on the forthcoming General Assembly and the impending transition in the organisation’s leadership.

He disclosed that his tenure as MUSWEN president would end at the assembly and introduced the organisation’s Deputy President I, Alhaji Rafiu Adisa Ebiti, as his successor.

The November gathering is expected to bring together Muslim leaders, scholars and representatives of Muslim organisations from across the South-West to deliberate on issues affecting the Ummah and the future direction of the organisation.

Among those who accompanied Oladejo on the visits were Ebiti; MUSWEN Executive Secretary, Prof. Wole Abbas; Chairman of its Media and Publicity Committee, Alhaji Mikail Adegoke Mumuni; Secretary of the Ogun State Muslim Council, Alhaji Kamal Akintunde; and the Council’s Publicity Secretary and Public Relations Officer, Alhaji Hassan Akinkule.
