The Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC) has mourned the death of the Secretary-General of the Supreme Council for Shari’ah in Nigeria (SCSN), Malam Nafiu Baba-Ahmad, describing him as a “frank and fearless” figure who devoted his life to the service of Islam and humanity.

Baba-Ahmad died on Tuesday, October 6, 2026, at the age of 70.

In a statement issued on Wednesday by its Founder and Executive Director, Professor Ishaq Akintola, MURIC commiserated with the leadership of the SCSN and the wider Muslim Ummah over the death.

The organisation described Baba-Ahmad as a famous, influential and highly respected Islamic scholar of his time.

MURIC also highlighted his national outlook, describing the late SCSN Secretary-General as a “most detribalised Nigerian” who had friends and associates across the country.

“Frank and fearless, justice and fairness were the cornerstones of his entire life,” the statement said.

According to MURIC, Baba-Ahmad devoted his life to the service of Islam and humanity and was known for his generosity, including willingly extending privileges to others even when doing so came at his own inconvenience.

“His piety knew no bounds,” the organisation said.

MURIC said his death would be felt by the leadership of the Shari’ah Council and Muslims across the country.

“MURIC commiserates with the leadership of the Supreme Council for Shari’ah in Nigeria (SCSN) as well as the entire Muslim Ummah. He will be missed by all,” the statement said.

The organisation prayed that Almighty Allah forgive Baba-Ahmad, have mercy on him and admit him into Al-Jannatul Firdaus.

It also prayed for strength for his family to bear what it described as an irreparable loss and asked Allah to place them under His divine protection.

The statement was signed by Professor Ishaq Akintola, Founder and Executive Director of MURIC, and dated October 7, 2026.
