IRGC: US Must Accept Iran’s Conditions to Reopen Hormuz

By Sadiq Abdulfatah

The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has said the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz will depend on the United States accepting conditions set by Iran.

IRGC spokesperson Brigadier General Hossein Mohebbi said the issue was separate from ongoing negotiations between Iran and Oman and would be handled through what he described as Iran’s legal and defensive mechanisms.

Speaking on the continued closure of the strategic waterway, Mohebbi said its reopening had “no connection whatsoever” with the negotiations between Iran and Oman.

He said Iran viewed the Strait of Hormuz as more than an economic route, describing it as an important element of the country’s geopolitical strength and a capability used in line with its defence and sovereignty policies.

According to the IRGC spokesperson, Iran has officially established conditions for reopening the waterway, while the timing and manner of its reopening would depend on the extent to which the United States accepts those conditions.

Mohebbi also accused the US of interfering in regional affairs and said Washington must accept what Iran considers its legal and reasonable conditions before the transportation routes can reopen.

He further called on the United States not to interfere in negotiations between Iran and Oman or talks involving other regional countries, which he said were approaching their final stages.

Mohebbi concluded that the Strait of Hormuz would be reopened once the US accepts Iran’s conditions and abandons what he described as its interventionist approach.
