Iran tells Muslim nations: US is not your friend, Israel is your enemy

Ali Larijani tells Islamic countries to reconsider ties with the United States amid ongoing US-Israeli strikes against Iran

Iran’s top security official has issued a stark warning to Muslim nations hosting US military bases, saying that the United States cannot be relied upon as an ally and that Israel represents a clear adversary.

In a six-point open letter published on Monday, Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council Ali Larijani addressed neighbouring Islamic states, calling attention to what he described as a “deceptive US-Zionist invasion” against Iran. Larijani accused the aggressors of attempting to weaken the Islamic Republic while Tehran engaged in negotiations with Washington.

“The enemy has martyred the Leader of the Islamic Revolution, Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, along with ordinary citizens and military commanders. Yet the Iranian nation has resisted with determination,” Larijani said, asserting that the country’s response has left the attackers uncertain of how to resolve the current strategic impasse.

Larijani criticised several Muslim governments for failing to support Iran, arguing that their inaction contravened the teachings of Prophet Mohammad, which dictate that Muslims must respond to the calls of fellow believers in need. He framed Tehran’s actions against US and Israeli assets as defensive measures rather than aggression.

“Should Iran stand idly by while it is attacked from US bases in your countries? On one side of today’s battle are the United States and Israel, and on the other side stand Islamic Iran and the resistance forces. Which side are you on?” he asked, challenging the positions of regional governments.

The official further urged Islamic nations to consider the long-term security and unity of the Muslim world. “You know that the US has no loyalty to you and Israel is your enemy. Think for a minute about yourself and the future of the region. Iran is benevolent and does not intend to dominate you,” Larijani wrote.

He concluded by emphasising that a united Islamic Ummah, exercising collective power and solidarity, could secure the independence, security, and prosperity of all member states. The remarks come amid escalating tensions across the Middle East following US and Israeli military strikes on Iranian targets, which have prompted Iranian missile and drone retaliations.

Larijani’s letter underscores the widening diplomatic and security fault lines in the region, highlighting the increasing pressure on Islamic governments to navigate complex alliances while balancing national security and regional solidarity.
