Hajj 2025: Full Text of Vice President Shettima’s Speech at the Inaugural Flight Ceremony

Your Excellency, the Executive Governor of Imo State, Senator Hope Uzodimma, Distinguished Senator Abubakar Sani Bello, Chairman, Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs, Honourable Jafaru Muhammad Alli, Chairman, House Committee on Hajj Affairs, Your Eminence, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, CFR, MNI, the Sultan of Sokoto and President-General, NSCIA,vThe Chairman and Commissioners of the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON), Honourable Members of the Imo State House of Assembly,

Our revered religious and traditional leaders, Dear Pilgrims, Ladies and Gentlemen.

It is with great honour, deep national pride, and a sense of spiritual fulfilment that I address you today at this groundbreaking occasion—the first ever official inaugural Hajj flight ceremony here in Owerri, Imo State. This is not just a logistical achievement—it is a moment of faith, unity, and progress for our people.

This is more than a ceremonial takeoff—it is a symbolic takeoff for unity, understanding, and inclusion. We are witnessing a new chapter in our collective national journey—the blessings of Hajj bringing our people closer and shining a bright light on the diverse religious identity of Imo and the South East.

This historic flight challenges lingering misperceptions, proving that religious diversity is not a threat, but a strength—one woven into the very fabric of our heritage.

I commend the efforts of His Excellency Governor Hope Uzodimma for fostering an atmosphere of religious tolerance and inclusion, and for supporting this remarkable event. I also extend our appreciation to the leadership of NAHCON for their vision, and to all stakeholders who worked tirelessly to make this day a reality.

To our esteemed pilgrims: You are not just going on a sacred journey; you are carrying the prayers, dignity, and goodwill of our entire nation as Nigerian ambassadors in Saudi Arabia. May your Hajj be accepted, may your prayers be answered, your hearts uplifted, and your return safe and joyful.

As we mark this milestone, let it serve as a lasting reminder that Nigeria is strongest when every citizen—regardless of region or religion—is honoured and dignified wherever they reside in our great country.
