Fountain University Stands by Oloyede over UTME Hitches

The recent developments surrounding the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) have understandably raised concerns among stakeholders in the education sector and the general public. However, the courageous and transparent manner in which the Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), Prof. Is-haq Olanrewaju Oloyede addressed the causes and speaks volumes of his integrity, character, and leadership.

As a university that benefitted immensely from his wisdom and exemplary service as our second Pro-Chancellor, Fountain University, Osogbo proudly joins other forward-thinking institutions to express our unwavering support for Prof. Oloyede in this critical moment.

In a press briefing held on Wednesday, 15th May 2025, Prof. Oloyede, in a remarkable display of humility and responsibility, took full ownership of the technical and human errors that affected the UTME results of 379,997 candidates in Lagos and the South-East. Rather than offering excuses, he offered solutions—ordering a retake for the affected candidates and initiating a full-scale internal technical audit to prevent future occurrences.

These actions reaffirm the values we have always associated with Prof. Oloyede: truthfulness, courage, transparency, and accountability—qualities that have defined his decades of service to the Nigerian education system.

Since his appointment as JAMB Registrar in 2016, Prof. Oloyede has spearheaded a transformation marked by digital innovation, integrity in examination conduct, and restored public confidence in the board. These efforts have directly benefited institutions like ours through more reliable admission processes and the onboarding of highly qualified candidates into our academic programmes.

His distinguished leadership, from his days as Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ilorin to his tenure on our own Governing Council, continues to inspire a generation of educators, administrators, and students alike.

At Fountain University, we urge Nigerians to view this episode not as a failure, but as a rare lesson in leadership and a call to strengthen our systems, not demonize those who bravely acknowledge and address their imperfections.
