Fagbemi: Summit University Has Made Progress, But More Work Lies Ahead
The new Pro-Chancellor commends the university’s progress but calls for stronger collaboration to push it towards its ambition of becoming one of Nigeria’s leading universities.

Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Prince Lateef Fagbemi, SAN, has said Summit University, Offa, has made encouraging progress but still has significant work to do as he begins his tenure as the institution’s Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of its Governing Council.
Fagbemi made the remarks during his first official visit to the university on Tuesday, where he presided over a meeting of the Governing Council and inspected key facilities and infrastructure across the campus.
After the inspection, the Pro-Chancellor commended the development recorded by the university and acknowledged the contributions of his predecessor and other stakeholders in laying a foundation for its continued growth.
He, however, said more work remained if Summit University was to realise its ambition of becoming one of Nigeria’s leading universities.
Fagbemi called for greater collaboration among the Governing Council, Board of Trustees, University Management, staff, students, alumni and other stakeholders, stressing that the institution’s continued development required a shared commitment and collective effort.
The Pro-Chancellor also paid a courtesy visit to the Olofa of Offa, His Royal Majesty Oba Mufutau Muhammad Gbadamosi Esuwoye II, who welcomed his appointment and described it as a positive development for Summit University and the Offa community.
The monarch expressed confidence in Fagbemi’s experience and antecedents, describing him as a worthy choice to provide leadership at the institution.
He also described Summit University as one of the significant achievements of Offa and reaffirmed the community’s continued support for its growth and development.
The Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Engr. Nurudeen Adeagbo, said Fagbemi’s appointment was informed by his demonstrated commitment to the development of the university.
Adeagbo expressed confidence that the Pro-Chancellor’s experience would contribute significantly to strengthening the institution’s leadership and governance.
The Visitor to Summit University and National President of the Ansar-Ud-Deen Society of Nigeria, Prince Mosediq Adeniji Kazeem, SAN, FCArb, represented at the event by Alhaji Najeemudeen Yasin, said the appointment followed careful deliberations aimed at providing the university with strong and purposeful leadership at an important stage of its development.
He said the Society remained committed to supporting the university in its pursuit of academic excellence, institutional growth and sustainable development.
The Vice-Chancellor, Engr. Abiodun Musa Aibinu, welcomed the new Pro-Chancellor and assured him of the full support and cooperation of the university’s management.
Aibinu said Management would continue to consolidate the achievements already recorded while exploring new opportunities in academic quality, infrastructure, research, innovation and institutional advancement.
The visit also provided Fagbemi with an opportunity to familiarise himself with the university’s facilities, interact with key stakeholders and gain first-hand insight into its current development priorities.
The university leadership and stakeholders subsequently reaffirmed their commitment to working together to strengthen Summit University’s academic and institutional standing and advance its ambition of becoming a leading university in Nigeria.
