Dhikr – Ramadan Digest (Day 13)
Dhikr is a light for the heart and a shield against heedlessness. Every whisper of SubhanAllah, Alhamdulillah, La ilaha illa Allah, Allahu Akbar polishes the soul, drawing it closer to Allah. In this blessed month, let our tongues be moist with His remembrance, for a heart filled with dhikr is a heart at peace.

NIGERIA – The African Democratic Congress urged voters at a Ramadan lecture in Lagos to prioritize competence and unity over tribal or religious sentiments ahead of the 2027 general elections, warning against vote-buying and poor leadership.
EGYPT – Volunteers distributed iftar meals to motorists at highways and transport hubs, including routes in Monufia province, handing out water, dates and juice to travelers unable to reach home before sunset. Organizers said the initiative, now in its 10th year, provides about 300 meals daily on some roads, with additional meals at railway stations and busy city streets.
GABON – Communal iftar tables were organized in mosques and private homes in Libreville and other regions, bringing together families and charitable groups for shared meals and religious lessons during the holy month. Muslims-many of whom trace their roots to West African countries such as Mali, Senegal, and Nigeria-combine local culinary traditions with broader Islamic customs.
PAKISTAN – Shiite communities in Karachi, Lahore and Islamabad organized collective iftars and distributed meal packages along busy streets, with mosques hosting educational programs alongside evening prayers.
AFGHANISTAN – Worshippers gathered at the Jafari Grand Mosque in Lashkar Gah, Helmand province, for prayers during the second week of Ramadan, underscoring continued communal observance.
INDONESIA – Date sales at Jakarta’s Tanah Abang Market surged by more than 50% compared with normal days as Ramadan began. Traders reported price increases, with Sukari dates rising from Rp70,000 to Rp90,000 per kilogram, while ajwa varieties start at Rp300,000 per kilogram.
ALGERIA – Rising food prices have strained households during Ramadan despite government pledges to stabilize markets. Vendors at Algiers’ Clauzel market reported sharp increases in staples including onions, carrots and green beans, prompting complaints from shoppers facing declining purchasing power.
KUWAIT – The annual Ramadan diwaniya hosted by The Times Kuwait’s editor-in-chief brought together diplomats, community leaders and business figures, reflecting the diwaniya’s traditional role as a forum for social engagement and informal diplomacy.
