Cardinal Onaiyekan, Archbishop Ogunmuyiwa attend Abuja gathering as mosque expands humanitarian outreach

An atmosphere of unity and spiritual reflection marked a special iftar evening at the Al-Habibiyyah Islamic Society, as prominent religious and political leaders gathered in a powerful demonstration of interfaith harmony.
Among the guests were John Onaiyekan, President of the African Church Archbishop Peter Ogunmuyiwa, and Senator Saliu Mustapha, who represents Kwara Central and holds the traditional title of Turaki of Ilorin.
The gathering came at a spiritually significant time: Muslims are observing the holy month of Ramadan, Christians are in the season of Lent, and Jews are also in a period of fasting. Despite differences in faith traditions, the evening unfolded in a spirit of mutual respect and shared devotion, underscoring common values of sacrifice and prayer.
One of the most notable moments of the evening was the sight of Senator Mustapha personally serving meals to fasting guests at iftar. The gesture, marked by humility and simplicity, resonated deeply with attendees and reinforced the Islamic principle that leadership is rooted in service to humanity.
Under the leadership of Imam Fuad Adeyemi, Al-Habibiyyah Islamic Society has continued to cultivate an atmosphere where faith becomes a bridge rather than a barrier. The mosque complex has increasingly positioned itself as a center for dialogue, peaceful coexistence and humanitarian outreach in Nigeria’s capital.
Beyond spiritual activities, the society is widely known for its robust Ramadan humanitarian initiatives. Each year, it organizes large-scale iftar distributions, food support for vulnerable families, medical outreach programs and youth development initiatives. Through its structured charity schemes, educational programs and interfaith engagements, the organization has played a significant role in promoting social welfare and national cohesion.
The Al-Habibiyyah Islamic society has in recent years positioned itself not only as a center of worship, but also as a platform for dialogue, charity and national development.
