12th Annual ACAOSA Global Ramadan Lecture Promotes Generosity And Institutional Advancement In Agege

The 12th Annual Ramadan Lecture of the Anwar-ul-Islam College Agege Old Students Association (ACAOSA) was successfully held on Saturday, February 28, 2026, at the newly remodelled Jibril Martin Memorial Hall, Anwar-ul-Islam College, Agege. The spiritually uplifting and intellectually engaging event drew a large and diverse audience of alumni, students, scholars, religious leaders, and distinguished guests.

Organised by Anwar-ul-Islam College Agege Old Students Association, the lecture was themed “The Perspectives and Imperatives of Charity in Nigeria’s Contemporary Socio-Economic Situation.” The keynote address was delivered by Muslihu Adebola Afisi, FCIPM, National Chief Imam and Missioner of the Anwar-ul-Islam Movement of Nigeria.

In his insightful lecture presentation, Sheikh Afisi described charity, Zakat, Sadaqah, and structured social responsibility, not merely as voluntary acts of kindness but as divine obligations with the capacity to transform society. He emphasised that strategic and institutionalised charity remains a sustainable solution to poverty, inequality, and social dislocation in Nigeria. Highlighting empowerment, justice, compassion, and sustained investment in education and healthcare, he called for a renewed national commitment to social responsibility as a pathway to collective progress.

The lecture was chaired by Kola Isiaq-Balogun (Class of 1977), former President of ACAOSA USA, who reflected on the enduring impact of the College’s discipline, academic excellence, and Islamic values in shaping generations of leaders. In a remarkable show of support, he announced an immediate donation of ₦20 million to the College Development Fund and encouraged fellow alumni and guests to contribute toward infrastructure development and scholarships for indigent students.

The event was graced by Mudashiru Obasa, Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly. The Chief Host, Abdulfatai Agboola Afolabi, PhD, President-General of ACAOSA, in his welcome address, underscored the spiritual significance of Ramadan and expressed appreciation to benefactors whose generous donations have enabled key infrastructural improvements within the College. He also appealed for sustained alumni engagement to ensure continuous growth and development of the alma mater.

The Father of the Day, Kessington Adebukunola Adebutu, GCON, further demonstrated his commitment to educational advancement with a ₦20 million donation in support of the programme.
