CAIR Welcomes Jail Term in Tennessee Mosque Threat Case

The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), a leading Muslim civil rights group in the United States, has welcomed the sentencing of a man in the United States state of Tennessee who threatened a mosque.
Robert William Miller, 50, was sentenced to 18 months in prison for sending a threatening email to the Islamic Society of Greater Chattanooga in Chattanooga, Tennessee, United States. In the message, he reportedly wrote: “I’m going to kill all of you, Hail Satan.”
CAIR had previously welcomed the decision to bring charges in the case.
CAIR’s Research and Advocacy Director, Corey Saylor, said the sentencing is an important step in holding people accountable for threats against religious institutions. He said no one should face fear or violence while worshipping.
He added that threats against places of worship must be taken seriously by law enforcement and called for stronger protection of all religious communities from hate and violence.
CAIR also provides a safety guide for mosques and other places of worship to help improve security.
The group said its latest civil rights report shows continued complaints of anti-Muslim discrimination across the United States, reflecting ongoing concerns about Islamophobia.
It also urged people who experience hate incidents or bias to report them to authorities and to CAIR for support.
