Al-Wafa and Sabr (Golden Words of Allah – Episode 54)

“No one is given a gift better or more comprehensive than patience.” — Sahih al-Bukhari and Muslim

In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful. All perfect praise is due to Allah, may He be glorified and exalted, the Lord of the Worlds. We bear witness that there is none worthy of worship but Allah, and Muhammad (pbuh), is His slave and final Messenger.

Al-Wafa and Sabr are not momentary acts in Islam. A true believer remains committed not because of reward from people, but because of trust in Allah. Whether in fulfilling promises, preserving relationships, or staying steadfast in hardship, the Muslim is expected to reflect the noble character of the Prophet rasulullahi sallallahu alayhi wa sallam, who never broke a trust nor abandoned a commitment. He taught that wafa is a sign of truthfulness, and sabr is a mark of strength. These two qualities, often unseen in this duniyah, are seen and rewarded by Allah. And those who live by them walk the path of the righteous, step by step, even if alone.

Al-Wafa in Islam is not limited to relationships it is a deep quality of the heart that applies to promises, faith, friendships, businesses, contracts and even your quiet responsibilities. Allah says: “And fulfil [every] commitment. Verily, the commitment is a responsibility.” Surah Al-Isra (17:34)

The Prophet (pbuh) was described by Khadijah (RA) in the most telling way: “By Allah, you uphold the ties of kinship, speak the truth, carry people’s burdens, and fulfill trusts…” (Sahih al-Bukhari)

He (rasulullahi) was called Al-Ameen the Trustworthy even by those who rejected his message.

Loyalty means being true to people when they’re not around, and true to your word even when no one remembers it but you. It means standing with truth even when it’s not popular. No loyalty can survive without patience. Because loyalty often means staying committed even when it’s hard, even when you are tested.

Allah says: “And We made from among them leaders guiding by Our command when they were patient and [when] they were certain of Our signs.” Surah As-Sajdah (32:24)

The Prophet (pbuh) said: “No one is given a gift better or more comprehensive than patience.” (Sahih al-Bukhari and Muslim)

The believer shows sabr in three states: Patience in obeying Allah (even when it’s difficult), sabr in staying away from sin (even when it tempts), sabr in enduring trials (even when they feel crushing).

You may remain loyal to your marriage, your community, your job or your friend and it may go unnoticed. But every act of sincerity is recorded. Allah says: “Indeed, Allah does not let the reward of the doers of good go to waste.” Surah At-Tawbah (9:120)

Sabr in Islam is not just a social virtue, it is an act of worship. And patience is not passive it is powerful. A Muslim holds firm when others let go, and stays true when others waver. Not for applause, but for Allah.

“So be patient. Indeed, the promise of Allah is truth.” Surah Ar-Rum (30:60)
