UTME Conducted In Eight Foreign Countries For Aspirants Seeking Admission In Nigeria – JAMB

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has successfully conducted the foreign component of the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) in eight foreign countries.

JAMB in its Weekly Bulletin disclosed that the examination, held on Saturday, July 13, 2024, was designed for foreign candidates seeking admission to Nigerian tertiary institutions.

The UTME was conducted in London, United Kingdom, Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, Cameroon, Accra, Ghana, Cotonou, Benin Republic, Johannesburg, South Africa, Abidjan, Cote d’Ivoire and Banjul, The Gambia.

The Board stated that conducting exams in these foreign locations aims to showcase Nigerian tertiary institutions to a global audience, placing them at par with their international counterparts.

“This initiative has successfully attracted international students to Nigerian universities.

“Furthermore, JAMB has incorporated the number of foreign students admitted by an institution as a criterion for the NATAP M-Award, recognizing institutions that excel in international student recruitment,” JAMB said.

One of the candidates from The Gambia, Master Oke Adebola, said he chose Nigerian Universities because he wanted a competitive education, adding that most lecturers in Gambia Universities are foreigners, who travel a lot, thereby creating a lacuna that may not augur well for competitive learning and research.

The examination was held at the Nigerian High Commission, Banjul, the Gambia on Saturday, July 13, 2024.

Adebola thanked the Nigerian government and JAMB for allowing him to pursue his dream of a tertiary education in Nigeria. He disclosed that he applied for admission to Covenant University, Ogun State to study computer science.
