Stop scheduling events on Friday – MURIC to Makinde

The Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC) has accused the Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde of scheduling official meetings and programs on Friday thereby depriving Muslim officials of attending Friday prayers.

MURIC, which is an organization exclusively fighting for “Allah-given” fundamental rights of Muslims in Nigeria made the allegations in a press statement issued by its Executive Director, Prof Ishaq Akintola on Monday, 15th July, 2024.

Makinde had arrived late for the coronation of the New Olubadan of Ibadan Land, Oba Owolabi Olakulehin, on Friday, 12th July 2024. His actions were tagged by MURIC as “executive dare-devilness” that ordinary citizens would be reprimanded for.

Prof Akintola went ahead to call for the declaration of Friday as a work-free day in Nigeria. “The absence of a work-free Friday in the country is a sign-post of inequality, imbalance and lopsidedness. Nigeria’s democracy is a fraud if Muslims are not given the same things Christians are given.”

Prof Akintola therefore urged the Governor to avoid fixing important programmes on Fridays and also to order the removal of his name from the reconstructed Adogba Central Mosque. Citing the illegality of his name written boldly there.

He concluded by reminding the mosque committee of the aforesaid mosque on the eschatological implications of their actions.
“We are all accountable to Allah for actions taken by us in this world in the Hereafter.”
