Uncertainty Over Arrest of Palestinian Community Leader in Abuja
MPAC tasks security agencies to come clean on Ramzy Abu Ibrahim’s whereabouts

The reported arrest of Mr. Ramzy Abu Ibrahim, head of the Palestinian Community in Nigeria, has thrown Abuja into confusion, following claims that he was whisked away from his residence by suspected anti-terror operatives.
Abu Ibrahim was said to have been taken away last Friday, but his whereabouts remain unknown as at Monday. Neither his family nor the Palestinian Embassy in Abuja has received any official briefing on the matter.
The Muslim Public Affairs Centre, MPAC, in a statement signed by its Executive Chairman, Disu Kamor, expressed worry over the development, insisting that Nigeria’s security agencies must come clean.
“Counter-terrorism operations must be guided by transparency, accountability, and fairness. Innocent people must never become victims of smear campaigns, policy-driven harassment, or politically motivated arrests,” Kamor said.
There are growing concerns that the arrest may not be unconnected with Abu Ibrahim’s recent public comments on the killings in Gaza. MPAC warned that silencing such voices would dent Nigeria’s long-standing reputation as a defender of oppressed peoples.
The group urged the Federal Government to confirm whether Ibrahim is in custody, disclose reasons for his detention, and guarantee his safety and access to legal representation.
It further cautioned against what it described as “outsourced persecution” of Palestinians and their advocates.
As at press time, no arm of the security establishment had issued any statement on the matter.
