Tragedy in Iwo as Dr Buwayb dies

Iwo has been thrown into mourning following the announcement of the death of Sheikh Dr. Abdur Rasheed Buwayb, an astute scholar from Iwo.
It was revealed that the scholar died after a brief illness at the Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospital (OAUTHC), Ife, Osun State, on Tuesday, 2nd of July 2024.
His Janāzah prayers will take place after Asr at Islahudeen Arabic School, Iwo, Osun State.
He studied at the feet of Shaykh Abdul Bāqi Muhammad (Oluko Agba) of Iwo, he later proceeded to Imām Muhammad bin Saud Islamic University in Mauritania where he bagged a degree in Sharī’ah (Islamic Legal Studies). He also specialised in Arabic Sciences at Masters and PhD level at the University of Ilorin.
Prominent students who learned at his hands include Shaykh Yaqub Abdul Bāqi ( The Waziri of Yorubaland), Shaykh Dawud Imran (The Mufti of Yorubaland), Professor Khidr Abdul Bāqi (Director of the Nigerian Center for Arabic Research) and many more.
Before his death, he was the director of Umar ibn Khattāb School in Iwo and also a lecturer at the Islaudeen Arabic School, Iwo Osun State. He was also a member of the Osun State Pilgrims Welfare Board for over 30 years.
Iwo which in popular parlance is referred to as “Ilu Alfa” (City of Scholars) is deeply bereaved with the passage of this eminent scholar. We ask Allāh in his infinite mercies to forgive his mistakes and admit him into Al Janatul Firdaus.
