President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Sultan of Sokoto Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar and Borno State Governor, Prof. Babagana Zulum, are among prominent dignitaries expected at the 11th General Assembly of the Muslim Ummah of South West Nigeria (MUSWEN), scheduled for Ibadan on November 15.
The annual gathering, which will take place at the University of Ibadan Central Mosque, is expected to bring together leaders of Muslim organisations and communities from across the six states of the South-West geopolitical zone.
Chairman of the 2026 General Assembly Central Planning Committee, Alhaji AbdulRahman Olawale AbdulGhaniy, disclosed this in a statement issued in Ibadan, saying the governors of the South-West states are also expected to attend the gathering.
Governor Zulum is expected to deliver the annual lecture at the event, which will also provide a platform for Muslim leaders and delegates to deliberate on issues concerning the development and welfare of the Ummah in the region.
A major item on the agenda will be the ratification of a change in the leadership of MUSWEN, following the completion of the six-year tenure of its incumbent president, Alhaji Rasaki Oladejo.
Oladejo assumed office as MUSWEN president on November 22, 2020, succeeding the late Dr Sakariyau Olayiwola Babalola.
The General Assembly will also support MUSWEN’s wider mobilisation of resources for projects aimed at improving the welfare of Muslims across the South-West.
AbdulGhaniy appealed to Muslim philanthropists and other stakeholders to support the organisation’s target of raising ₦2 billion for projects including the empowerment of less privileged members of the Ummah, the construction of a state-of-the-art health facility and scholarships for needy Muslim students.
MUSWEN is the umbrella organisation for Muslim communities and councils across the South-West, with the Muslim Communities or Muslim Councils of the region’s states forming its primary member organisations.
The November gathering will therefore bring together representatives of these organisations as MUSWEN prepares for a new phase of leadership while advancing its welfare and development agenda.
