Reward for Qur’an Memorizers & Teachers – Golden Words of Allah (episode39)

“The one who has nothing of the Qur’an in his heart is like a ruined house.” Hadith (Sunan At-Tirmidh)

In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful. All perfect praise be to Allah, may He be glorified and exalted, the Lord of the Worlds. We testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allah and that Muhammad, (pbuh), is His slave and Messenger.

Introduction
The Qur’an is the divine word of Allah, revealed as guidance for all of humanity. Memorizing and teaching it is one of the greatest acts of devotion a Muslim can undertake. The Qur’an and Hadith emphasize the high status of those who commit the Qur’an to memory and teach it to others, promising immense rewards in both this world and the hereafter.

1. The Qur’an Elevates Its People
Memorizing and teaching the Qur’an grants a person honor and distinction in both worlds.
Qur’an Reference: “Indeed, it is We who sent down the Reminder (the Qur’an), and indeed, We will be its guardian.”(Surah Al-Hijr 15:9).
Hadith Reference: The Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) said, “The best among you are those who learn the Qur’an and teach it.” (Sahih Bukhari).
Hadith Reference: The Prophet (peace be upon him) also said, “Indeed, Allah raises some people by this Book and lowers others by it.” (Sahih Muslim).

2. The Memorizer of the Qur’an Wears a Crown of Honour in the Hereafter
On the Day of Judgment, those who memorize the Qur’an will be clothed in honor and dignity.
Qur’an Reference: “On that Day, some faces will be bright, looking at their Lord.” (Surah Al-Qiyamah 75:22-23)

The scholars explain that among those with bright faces will be the people of the Qur’an, honored for their dedication.

Hadith Reference: The Prophet (peace be upon him) said, “The one who memorized the Qur’an shall come on the Day of Judgment, and the Qur’an will say: ‘O Lord! Adorn him.’ So, he will be given a crown of nobility. Then it will say: ‘O Lord! Give him more!’ So, he will be given a garment of honour. Then it will say: ‘O Lord! Be pleased with him.’ So, Allah will be pleased with him.” (Sunan At-Tirmidhi)

3. The Qur’an Will Intercede for Its People
On the Day of Judgment, the Qur’an will act as an intercessor for those who committed themselves to it.
Qur’an Reference: “This Qur’an guides to that which is most upright and gives good news to the believers who do righteous deeds that they will have a great reward.” (Surah Al-Isra 17:9).
Hadith Reference: The Prophet (peace be upon him) said, “Recite the Qur’an, for it will come as an intercessor for its companions on the Day of Judgment.”(Sahih Muslim)

4. The Parents of a Hafidh (Memorizer) Are Honoured
Not only does the memorizer receive rewards, but their parents are also honored in the next life.
Qur’an Reference: “And We have enjoined upon man [care] for his parents. His mother carried him, [increasing her] in weakness upon weakness, and his weaning is in two years. Be grateful to Me and to your parents; to Me is the [final] destination.” (Surah Luqman 31:14).

The scholars explain that one of the greatest ways a child can honour their parents is by learning and teaching the Qur’an.
Hadith Reference: The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: “Whoever recites the Qur’an, learns it, and acts upon it, his parents will be given a crown of light, brighter than the sun…” (Musnad Ahmad)

5. Higher Ranks in Jannah (Paradise)
Those who memorize the Qur’an will ascend to higher levels in Jannah based on their recitation.
Qur’an Reference: “For them are the Gardens of Eternity beneath which rivers flow. They will be adorned therein with bracelets of gold and will wear green garments of fine silk and brocade, reclining therein on adorned couches. Excellent is the reward, and good is the resting place.” (Surah Al-Kahf 18:31).
Hadith Reference: The Prophet (peace be upon him) said, “It will be said to the companion of the Qur’an: ‘Recite and rise in status, and recite as you used to in the world, for your status will be at the last verse you recite.’” (Sunan At-Tirmidhi)

6. Protection from Hellfire
Memorizing and teaching the Qur’an serves as a shield against the punishment of Hell.
Hadith Reference: The Prophet (peace be upon him) said, “If the Qur’an is gathered in a person (through memorization), and he regards what is lawful as lawful and what is unlawful as unlawful, Allah will admit him to Paradise and grant him intercession for ten of his family members who were destined for Hell.” (Sunan Ibn Majah)

7. Protection from Forgetfulness and Heart Hardening
Those who engage with the Qur’an regularly are protected from forgetfulness and the hardness of the heart.
Hadith Reference: The Prophet (peace be upon him) said, “The one who has nothing of the Qur’an in his heart is like a ruined house.” (Sunan At-Tirmidhi)

8. Teaching the Qur’an is a Continuous Charity (Sadaqah Jariyah)
Teaching the Qur’an is one of the greatest forms of Sadaqah Jariyah—a deed that continues to benefit a person even after their death.
Qur’an Reference: “And whatever good you put forward for yourselves—you will find it with Allah. It is better and greater in reward.” (Surah Al-Muzzammil 73:20).
Hadith Reference: The Prophet (peace be upon him) said, “When a person dies, his deeds come to an end except for three: ongoing charity, beneficial knowledge, or a righteous child who prays for him.” (Sahih Muslim)

Conclusion
Memorizing and teaching the Qur’an brings immense rewards, including elevation in status, intercession on the Day of Judgment, honor for one’s family, and a high rank in Jannah. It is a lifelong investment with eternal rewards. The Qur’an is not just a book to be read, it is to be memorized, understood, act upon and shared. May Allah grant us the ability to memorize, understand, and teach the Qur’an with sincerity.
