Relive the Moment: IBB’s Book Launch in Photos
By Abdullahi Yusuf
It was a sight to behold at the Congress Hall of Transcorp Hilton, Abuja, as Nigeria’s political and business elite gathered for the grand unveiling of A Journey in Service, the memoir of former military president, General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida (IBB). The event, a rare assembly of past and present national leaders, was a testament to IBB’s lasting influence on Nigeria’s political landscape.
From the presence of all living former heads of state including Obasanjo, Gowon, Abdulsalami, and Jonathan to the attendance of top business magnates and revered traditional rulers, the book launch was not just a literary event but a moment of history in itself. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the Special Guest of Honour, set the tone for the evening, brushing aside his prepared speech to pay a heartfelt tribute to IBB’s role in shaping Nigeria and his own political journey.
As the hall filled beyond capacity, with dignitaries standing for lack of seats, speakers reminisced about IBB’s years in power, his contributions to national development, and the controversial decisions that defined his rule. In a moment that stunned many, the former leader finally addressed the lingering shadow of the June 12, 1993 election annulment, an apology decades in the making.
Laced with wit, nostalgia, and powerful reflections, the event was more than a book launch; it was a celebration of leadership, legacy, and lessons from Nigeria’s past. Here’s a glimpse into the historic occasion through our photo story.
