By Fatih Lawal-Garu
In his speech on Saturday June 22 2024 at the annual Halqatul Qur’ān organized by Ma’adul Katiby L-Adabiy for Qur’ān Memorization and Arabic Sciences in collaboration with her alumni, Hon Justice Abdur Raheem Sayi advised parents on the need to shun materialism and put Islām first when making career choices for their wards.
The Kwara State Sharī’ah Court Judge while delivering his lecture praised Islamic scholars who shunned the path of charlatans and fraudsters to raise sound minds on the basis of the Qur’ān and the Sunnah of the Prophet. In his words, “These scholars are degree holders, postgraduate scholars and even PhD holders. The zeal for teaching the Qur’ān is the only thing that makes them continue to teach Muslim wards even where there is little or no financial reward.”
He urged parents to prioritize the welfare of these dedicated teachers by paying tuition fees promptly and adding attractive incentives.
This year’s event involved expert Qur’ān reciters who recited from memory Sūratul An’ām to Sūratul A’raf in not only the popular Riwāyah (Hafs ‘an Āsim) in this region but many other Riwāyah like Warsh ‘an Nāfi, Ibn Kathīr, Dūri and others.
Ma’adul Katibiy L-Adabiy also hosted as guest reciter from Sokoto State Shaykh Habibu Muhammad Shugaba who is the Media Chairman for the Annual Usman Dan Fodio National Quranic Competition.
The inauguration of new executives for the school’s alumni marked the end of the event. The former Amīr Shaykh Luqman Kokewukobeere while handing over to the new Amīr Dr Musa Rabiu appreciated the efforts of the school’s proprietor Shaykh Dr Saheed Ahmad Katibi for his efforts in training and supporting Qur’ān reciters over the years. He also exhorted the new executives to fulfill their new tasks judiciously for Allāh’s sake.
