Qadar (Golden Words of Allah Ep 91)

Indeed, We have created all things according to Qadar (decree). (Surah Al-Qamar 54:49)

In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful. All perfect praise is due to Allah, may He be glorified and exalted, the Lord of the Worlds. We bear witness that there is none worthy of worship but Allah, and Muhammad (pbuh), is His slave and final Messenger.

Dear brothers and sisters, nothing in creation exists outside the will, knowledge and decree of Allah. Every moment unfolds within a measure already written, not in randomness, but in absolute divine precision. This belief in al-Qadar is not a side concept in Islam, it is one of the foundations of faith itself.

Allah says in Surah Al-Qamar 54:49: “Indeed, We have created all things according to Qadar (decree).”

“No disaster strikes upon the earth or within yourselves except that it is in a register before We bring it into being. Indeed, that is easy for Allah.” (Surah Al-Hadid 57:22)

The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: “Indeed, the first thing Allah created was the Pen. He said to it: ‘Write.’ It said: ‘My Lord, what shall I write?’ He said: ‘Write the decrees of everything until the Hour (Day of Judgment).’” (Sunan Abu Dawud, Tirmidhi)

The Prophet (pbuh) also clarified how this belief should shape the heart of a believer when he said: “Be mindful of Allah, and you will find Him in front of you. Know that what passed you was never going to befall you, and what befell you was never going to pass you by.” (Sunan Abu Dawud)

The believer does not collapse under regret, because what was written had to occur. And he does not become arrogant in success, because nothing reached him except what Allah allowed.

The companions understood this balance deeply. When they were asked about effort and destiny, they did not abandon action. Instead, they acted more seriously, while trusting more deeply. The Prophet (pbuh) himself corrected misunderstanding of Qadar when some companions relied on fate without effort, saying: “Act, for everyone will be facilitated toward what he was created for.”(Sahih al-Bukhari, Sahih Muslim)

Here lies the balance of Islam: decree does not cancel action, and action does not escape decree. Rather, action is part of the decree itself.

The scholars of Ahl al-Sunnah summarized belief in Qadar into four realities: Allah’s complete knowledge of all things, His writing of all things, His will over all things, and His creation of all things. Nothing occurs outside these four pillars, not even the movement of a heart or the fall of a leaf.

But the Qur’an never presents this belief to confuse the believer. It presents it to settle the heart. When loss occurs, the believer says as Allah taught: “Say: Never will we be struck except by what Allah has written for us.” (Surah At-Tawbah 9:51)

In the end brothers and sisters, Qadar is not a subject to debate, but a reality to live by. It teaches us Muslims that life is not random, that pain is not meaningless, and that even delays carry design.
