The Prophet’s Mosque, Islam’s second holiest site located in Medina, Saudi Arabia, welcomed an astounding 5.6 million worshippers and visitors last week, according to the General Authority for Care of the Prophet’s Mosque. The revered site provided seamless services to accommodate the influx of devotees.

Among the visitors, 367,729 prayed at Al Rawda Al Sharifa, the sacred area within the mosque housing the tomb of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). Access to this site was managed through carefully planned schedules and crowd-management protocols, ensuring separate arrangements for men and women.

Saudi authorities emphasized the importance of electronic reservations for visiting Al Rawda Al Sharifa, allowing for smooth and orderly access in line with pre-arranged appointments.

As part of its hospitality and services, the mosque provided multilingual support to 46,731 non-Arabic-speaking worshippers last week. Additionally, significant efforts were made to maintain cleanliness and hygiene, with 24,256 litres used for sterilisation and disinfection.

The worshippers also benefited from the distribution of 1,460 tons of Zamzam water and 179,056 Iftar meals at designated areas within the mosque premises.

For many pilgrims performing Umrah at the Grand Mosque in Mecca, a visit to the Prophet’s Mosque in Medina is an integral part of their spiritual journey. Beyond offering prayers, pilgrims often explore Medina’s rich Islamic landmarks, strengthening their connection to the profound heritage of Islam.

The continuous stream of worshippers to the Prophet’s Mosque underscores its enduring spiritual significance as a center of faith and devotion.
