Over 1 Million Libyans Vie for Spots in 2025 Hajj Lottery
The Libyan General Authority for Hajj and Umrah Affairs has announced a remarkable milestone as over one million citizens have registered for the 2025 Hajj lottery. This extraordinary figure highlights the enduring passion of Libyans to fulfill this sacred pillar of Islam and the extensive preparations required to ensure fairness and transparency in the selection process.
The authority disclosed that 1,113,336 Libyan citizens have successfully submitted their applications through the “Hujjaj” platform, a dedicated smartphone application designed to streamline the registration process. The platform, launched on October 17, 2024, allowed citizens to register until the deadline on November 17, 2024.
The Hajj and Umrah Authority is now in the critical phase of sorting and verifying applicants’ information to ensure compliance with eligibility criteria. Specialized departments are meticulously reviewing the data to maintain accuracy and adhere to the stipulated controls and conditions, such as Libyan nationality, health requirements, and previous pilgrimage history.
Key Requirements for Participation in the 2025 Hajj Lottery
Applicants must meet specific conditions, including:
- Holding Libyan nationality.
- Not having performed Hajj previously.
- Being at least 25 years old and in good health.
- Possessing a valid electronic passport.
- Complying with travel and accommodation conditions.
- Making payments through an electronic check issued to the General Authority for Hajj and Umrah Affairs.
- For women, having a Mahram (legal guardian) accompany them.
To further ensure fairness, the system prohibits substitution or transfer of registration and mandates a phone number linked to the applicant’s national ID.
The lottery process is a vital part of Libya’s preparations for the 1446 AH (2025) Hajj season, which is anticipated to be exceptional. Despite the political instability since the fall of Muammar Gaddafi in 2011, the General Authority has utilized modern technology to enhance the efficiency and transparency of Hajj-related procedures.
This development signifies the resilience of Libyans in pursuing spiritual fulfillment amidst challenges, as the General Authority continues its efforts to ensure a smooth and successful Hajj season for all selected pilgrims.
