Michika Kingdom Joins NDLEA in Battle Against Drug Abuse

The royal visit aims to deepen collaboration on awareness, prevention, and youth empowerment across Adamawa State.

Discussions also explored ways to strengthen NDLEA’s local operations through joint advocacy and community policing initiatives.

The Traditional Ruler of Michika, His Royal Majesty Prof. Bulus Luka Gadiga, has commended the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (rtd), for his exemplary leadership and national impact in the ongoing campaign against substance abuse and illicit drug trafficking.

During a courtesy visit to the NDLEA headquarters in Abuja on Monday, November 10, the monarch known traditionally as Mbege Ka Michika led members of his council to reaffirm the kingdom’s readiness to partner with the Agency in tackling the menace of drugs at the community level.

Speaking during the visit, Prof. Gadiga lauded Marwa’s sustained contributions to the development of Michika and its people, citing infrastructure support, educational scholarships, and youth empowerment initiatives.

“We are here to appreciate all the support you have given our people and to align ourselves with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s national agenda to eradicate illicit drugs,” the monarch said. “Your efforts are visible for all to see, and we are grateful for the leadership qualities that have made you a household name not only in our kingdom but across Nigeria.”

PEACE Magazine learned that the Michika Traditional Council has already reached out to local religious institutions, churches and mosques alike to promote awareness and discourage substance abuse among the youth. The monarch disclosed that letters had been sent to clerics and community leaders warning that the kingdom would no longer tolerate the sale or consumption of hard drugs within its boundaries.

He further expressed readiness to work closely with NDLEA in sensitization, enforcement, and community-level monitoring to stem the tide of drug abuse.

In his response, Brig. Gen. Marwa congratulated the royal father on his appointment and praised the Michika community for its proactive stance.

“We appreciate the support that Your Majesty has rendered to the NDLEA Command in Michika, especially in logistics and community engagement,” Marwa said. “The fight against illicit drugs is not for NDLEA alone, it is a collective responsibility involving traditional rulers, religious leaders, families, and every segment of society.”

Marwa urged the monarch to establish a local drug control committee within his domain to enhance coordination with the NDLEA and sustain community vigilance.

Other members of the royal entourage included Gen. Bitrus Kangye (rtd), Ambassador Ibrahim Mohammed Bashir, Dr. John Quaghe, and Halima Buba.
