Media, civil society groups honour JAMB Registrar with appreciation visit
The appreciation visit recognised Prof. Ishaq Oloyede’s leadership of the examination body, as representatives of media and civil society also met the incoming Registrar during the ceremony.

A coalition of media professionals and civil society organisations on Monday paid an appreciation visit to the Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, in recognition of what they described as his commitment to integrity, transparency and institutional reform during his tenure.
The delegation, operating under the Media and Civil Society Group for JAMB, presented commemorative plaques to Prof. Oloyede and the Board’s Public Communication Adviser, Dr Fabian Benjamin, during a brief ceremony at the Board’s headquarters in Abuja.
The visit also provided members of the delegation with an opportunity to meet JAMB’s incoming Registrar Professor Segun Aina, who is expected to succeed Prof. Oloyede at the end of his tenure.
Receiving the delegation, Prof. Oloyede thanked the group for the recognition and expressed confidence in the institution’s future leadership.
“If you think I have done anything, he will do better,” he said, referring to his successor. “He is going to do everything possible to take this Board to a better, higher level.”
He urged continued public support for the institution, saying sustained cooperation would help JAMB build on the reforms already introduced.
Speaking on behalf of the delegation after the presentation, the Head of Digital Media at Voice of Nigeria, Dr Qasim Akinreti, said the visit was intended to acknowledge exemplary public service and encourage a culture of rewarding professionalism.
“We believe we must reward hard work, professionalism and people who are doing good. This is our own way of saying thank you,” he said.
Dr Akinreti said Prof. Oloyede had raised standards of integrity, accountability and transparency within JAMB, adding that his administration demonstrated that public institutions could earn public confidence through consistent reforms.
“He raised the bar of integrity, the bar of success and the bar of accountability,” he said. “His transparency was quite extraordinary.”
He also commended Dr Fabian Benjamin for what he described as the Board’s openness to the media, saying the recognition extended to him reflected his role in strengthening engagement between JAMB and journalists.
Dr Akinreti said the presence of the incoming Registrar during the visit was significant, expressing optimism that the collaborative relationship between the Board, the media and civil society would continue under the next administration.
The appreciation visit coincided with preparations for JAMB’s leadership transition, with the delegation meeting the incoming Registrar who was present during the engagement, before presenting commemorative tokens to Prof. Oloyede and Dr Benjamin.
