Mawlid Message: NASFAT Tells Nigerians, Don’t Let 2027 Politics Tear You Apart
As Muslims mark Mawlid, Ayodeji AbdulRauf urges citizens to embrace tolerance, preserve relationships and reject political hostility

The Nasrul-Lahi-L-Fatih Society (NASFAT) has urged Nigerians to protect their relationships and promote peaceful coexistence as the country moves towards the 2027 general elections, warning against allowing political differences to fuel hatred and division.
The call was contained in a Mawlid message by NASFAT Global President, Alhaji Ayodeji AbdulWahid AbdulRauf, ahead of the 2026 Eid Mawlid celebration, which the society said provides an opportunity for Muslims to reflect on the life and teachings of Prophet Muhammad.
AbdulRauf said the Prophet’s example of compassion, justice, humility and service to humanity offered important lessons for Nigerians at a time when political competition is expected to intensify.
He urged citizens to participate actively in democratic processes and defend their political convictions, but said disagreement should not be allowed to destroy friendships, family ties, professional relationships or community bonds.
“It is natural for people to support different candidates, belong to various political parties, and hold differing opinions on national issues,” he said, stressing that such differences should not undermine relationships built over many years.
NASFAT said Nigerians should learn to separate political preferences from personal relationships, noting that friends, relatives, neighbours and colleagues do not have to share the same political opinions.
The society warned that political rivalry could turn otherwise healthy disagreements into lasting personal conflicts, particularly as campaigns and political debates become more intense ahead of the 2027 elections.
It urged Nigerians to engage in constructive political debate with civility and wisdom while resisting rhetoric and behaviour capable of deepening ethnic, religious or political divisions.
“Politics is temporary, but relationships are enduring,” NASFAT said, arguing that election campaigns would eventually end while the relationships people depend on through life would remain.
The organisation called on citizens to guard against allowing political disagreements to affect their peace of mind or weaken the social bonds that hold communities together.
The message also encouraged Muslims marking Mawlid to reflect on values associated with the life of Prophet Muhammad, including compassion, kindness, tolerance and peaceful coexistence.
NASFAT said the occasion should also encourage acts of charity and support for vulnerable members of society, alongside prayers, Qur’anic recitation and other forms of worship.
The society noted that Mawlid celebrations provide an opportunity for families and communities to strengthen bonds and promote goodwill, while encouraging Nigerians to extend those values beyond the celebration.
As the country approaches another election cycle, NASFAT urged citizens to build bridges across political, ethnic and religious differences and place national unity above partisan hostility.
The organisation said Nigeria’s democratic development depended not only on citizens’ participation in elections but also on their ability to disagree without turning political differences into personal or communal conflict.
AbdulRauf wished Muslims and Nigerians a peaceful and spiritually rewarding Mawlid celebration, praying that the occasion would inspire greater harmony, national unity, peace and prosperity.
