KSrelief to Power Nigerian Communities with 78 Solar Wells Across 10 States

Project to provide clean water for over 733,000 people across 10 Nigerian states as part of Saudi Arabia’s global humanitarian mission through KSrelief

Saudi Arabia, through the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre (KSrelief), has signed a cooperation agreement to implement a water project that will see the drilling of 78 solar-powered, medium-depth wells in 10 Nigerian states.

The agreement, finalised via video conference on Tuesday, was officially announced by Mohammed Al-Sahabi, Press Attaché at the Saudi Embassy in Abuja.

According to details obtained by PEACE Magazine, the initiative is expected to benefit more than 733,000 people, including rural households and livestock communities, by improving access to safe drinking water and supporting domestic water needs in underserved areas.

The agreement was signed by Eng. Ahmed bin Ali Al-Baiz, KSrelief’s Assistant Supervisor General for Operations and Programs, at the agency’s headquarters in Riyadh.

The project also seeks to reduce the prevalence of waterborne illnesses and parasitic diseases, contributing to a drop in child mortality and improving nutritional outcomes through enhanced hygiene and water safety.

Officials said the wells will be solar-powered, ensuring sustainability in remote or off-grid areas and aligning with environmentally conscious development practices.

This latest intervention forms part of a broader water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) portfolio implemented globally by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia through KSrelief, reflecting its commitment to improving health and living conditions in vulnerable communities.
