JAMB Halts Law Admissions in Nine Universities, Adjusts UTME Registration

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has announced the suspension of admissions into the Law programme at nine Nigerian universities for the 2025/2026 academic session. This follows a directive from the Council of Legal Education (CLE), which found these institutions non-compliant with the necessary accreditation requirements for running Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) programmes.
The affected universities are:
1. Kwara State University, Malete, Ilorin, Kwara State
2. Bingham University, Karu, Nasarawa State
3. Redeemers University, Ede, Osun State
4. Western Delta University, Oghara, Delta State
5. Taraba State University, Jalingo, Taraba State
6. Arthur Jarvis University, Akpabuyo, Cross River State
7. Alex Ekwueme Federal University, Ndufu-Alike, Ebonyi State
8. Nigerian Police Academy, Wudil, Kano State
9. Fountain University, Osogbo, Osun State
Notably, the suspension at the Nigerian Police Academy, Wudil will extend across two academic sessions, covering both 2025/2026 and 2026/2027.
In light of these developments, JAMB has also rescheduled the commencement of the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) registration from Friday, January 31, 2025, to Monday, February 3, 2025.
The Board stated that this shift was necessary to allow for essential adjustments in its registration process, following the CLE’s suspension of Law programmes in the affected universities. Additionally, JAMB has uncovered cases of fraudulent Computer-Based Test (CBT) centres that used deceptive means to gain approval. This postponement will allow time for further scrutiny and the removal of compromised centres.
JAMB reassured candidates and stakeholders that these measures are aimed at maintaining academic integrity and ensuring a smooth admission process. The Board also expressed regret over any inconvenience caused by these changes.
