In the halls of Obafemi Awolowo University, where ambition meets transformation, Islamiyyah Abdullateef stands out as a beacon of academic and personal excellence. At just 23, she graduated with an impressive CGPA of 4.90/5.0 in Accounting. Her journey is a striking testament to the balance of faith and intellect, breaking stereotypes and inspiring a new generation of determined Muslim women.

Islamiyyah’s academic path began at Imam Zubair Nursery and Primary School and continued at Command Day Secondary School, both in Ibadan. Throughout her education, she consistently excelled, earning numerous accolades that highlighted her dedication and brilliance. At the 2023 convocation, she received honors that firmly established her as a trailblazer in Accounting.

Among the prestigious awards she earned were the Faculty Prize for the Overall Best Student in the Faculty of Administration, the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) Prize for the Best Graduating Student in B.Sc. Accounting, and the Zenith Bank Prize for the Overall Best Student in her department. She was also recognized by the Society of Women Accountants of Nigeria (SWAN) as the best female final-year accounting student. These honors are a testament to her remarkable academic journey, one marked by determination and a drive to excel beyond societal expectations.

While many students focus solely on their degree, Islamiyyah took it a step further, becoming a Chartered Accountant while still in school. Her leadership as Tax Manager for the Students’ Professional Bureau of Accountancy and her involvement in university activities demonstrated her ability to balance academics with real-world experience, positioning her to make an impact in Nigeria’s finance sector.

Islamiyyah’s achievements symbolize more than personal success—they represent a broader movement of Muslim women breaking barriers, entering fields traditionally dominated by others, and excelling. In a world where veiled Muslim women are often underestimated, her story shows that one can embrace both faith and academic excellence.

Her journey proves that with hard work, resilience, and focus, there are no limits to what can be accomplished. Islamiyyah is not only setting new standards for herself but also paving the way for the Muslim community, particularly young women, to follow in her footsteps.
