Iran Says US Hormuz Operation Ended in Failure

An adviser to Iran’s parliamentary speaker has given a detailed account of what he described as a failed U.S. military attempt to reopen the Strait of Hormuz.
Speaking in an audio message released on Telegram on Thursday, Mehdi Mohammadi said Iranian naval forces confronted American units during an overnight clash in the strategic waterway.
He said the operation involved both the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) Navy and the Iranian Army Navy, which he claimed acted together to block the U.S. move.
According to Mohammadi, Washington had launched an effort known as “Project Freedom” with the aim of restoring unrestricted transit through the strait.
He alleged that the confrontation lasted from midnight until early morning, with Iranian forces resisting what he called attempts to impose control through military pressure.
Mohammadi further claimed several U.S. vessels were damaged during the encounter, while others were forced to withdraw from the area.
He said the operation ended without achieving its stated objective and accused Washington of trying to mask the setback.
No independent confirmation of the claims was immediately available from U.S. officials.
The Strait of Hormuz remains one of the world’s most sensitive maritime routes, carrying a significant share of global oil shipments. Any disruption there is closely watched by international markets and governments.
