Grand Mosque Rolls Out Child ID Bracelets to Boost Family Safety
Authorities introduce a simple tracking measure to protect young worshippers during crowded seasons

Families visiting the Grand Mosque in Mecca can now benefit from a new safety measure designed to protect children amid the heavy flow of worshippers. The General Authority for the Care of the Affairs of the Grand Mosque and the Prophet’s Mosque has begun issuing identification bracelets to children as part of efforts to improve on-site safety.
The initiative addresses one of the most common concerns during large gatherings—children becoming separated from their guardians. Each bracelet contains the guardian’s contact details, making it easier for mosque staff to quickly identify a child and facilitate a swift reunion if separation occurs.
Officials say the measure is integrated into the mosque’s wider visitor safety framework, supporting staff in managing emergencies and maintaining order throughout the expansive prayer areas and surrounding courtyards. The system is intended to function smoothly without disrupting the spiritual experience of visitors.
To ensure accessibility, the bracelets are distributed at major access points, including the King Abdulaziz Gate and the King Fahd Gate (Gate No. 79). Trained personnel stationed at these locations assist parents and guardians by registering their contact information efficiently.
Guardians are being encouraged to make use of the service, particularly during periods of high attendance such as Umrah and the annual Hajj pilgrimage, when millions of worshippers pass through the Grand Mosque and crowd density increases.
By offering a practical safeguard for children, the initiative aims to ease the concerns of families and allow parents to focus on worship with greater peace of mind. It also enhances the mosque’s ability to respond quickly to incidents involving minors.
Overall, the child identification bracelet programme underscores ongoing efforts to uphold safety and care standards at one of Islam’s holiest sites, ensuring that families can worship in a secure and well-organised environment.
