Sa’ad Abubakar, the Sultan of Sokoto, has proclaimed Wednesday, April 10, to be Eid-Fitri.

Sultan, who is the President General, of Nigeria’s Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs, said the decision followed the report of National Moon Sighting Committees across the country confirming no sighting of the new moon

According to a statement provided to newsmen in Sokoto on Monday night and signed by Prof. Sambo Junaidu, Chairman of the Advisory Committee on Religious Affairs to the Sultanate Council, the council accepted the report and subsequently proclaimed Wednesday, April 10, 2024, as the first day of Shawwal 1445AH.

“Him Eminence, the Sultan extends his felicitations to the Muslim Ummah of Nigeria and prays for Allah’s guidance and blessings upon them.”

“The Sultan, while urging the Muslim Ummah to continue to pray for peace, progress, and development of the country, also wishes all Muslims a happy Eid-El-Fitri,” according to the statement.

According to reports from Saudi Arabia, on Monday the crescent of Shawwal has not been sighted, indicating that the fasting will continue on Tuesday.

It also added that the Eid-El-Fitr would be held on Wednesday, April 10 to mark the beginning of the new Islamic month.

“The crescent moon was not visible in Saudi Arabia. As a result, Eid Al Fitr will fall on Wednesday, April 10, 2024.

“May Allah accept our siyām, qiyām, and a’māl, and grant us many more Ramadans in good health. Let us use the remaining moments of this blessed month to do what pleases Him.” The message said, “Āmīn.”
