BREAKING NEWS: Israel Strikes Southern Lebanon Despite Ceasefire; Five Killed

Lebanese state media reports overnight airstrikes and drone attacks across the Nabatiyeh region as renewed violence raises fresh concerns over the durability of the truce.

Israeli airstrikes on southern Lebanon early Saturday left at least five people dead, even as a ceasefire remained in place.

According to Lebanon’s state-run National News Agency (NNA), Israeli warplanes hit the towns of Upper Nabatiyeh, Nmeiriyeh, Choukin, Habboosh, Kfarjouz, Arabsalim, Zibdin, Sajd, Mahmoudiyeh, and Deir Zahrani.

Three of the deaths occurred in a strike on Arabsalim, and another person was killed in Deir Zahrani.

A fifth victim died in a drone strike that targeted a motorcycle at the edge of the town of Doueir.

Israeli artillery also shelled areas surrounding central Nabatiyeh in the pre-dawn hours.

Lebanese authorities say Israel’s military campaign in the country has killed more than 3,980 people, wounded over 12,000, and forced more than a million residents from their homes since March 2.

The renewed attacks come in spite of the ceasefire between Israel and Hezbollah that began Friday, and despite a newly announced U.S.-Iran agreement said to contain measures aimed at halting hostilities across all fronts, Lebanon included.
